Why do you believe abolitionists geared this book toward children? (2-3 sentence minimum) 6. Read the first ten or so lines of the book (you may need to scroll down a little bit for the beginning). Next, click here for a timeline of events concerning states' rights. 7. Explain why the South claimed that states' rights were a major reason they seceded (5-6 sentences). Be sure to cite specific legislation that was passed that the South felt was unfair. 8. Do you believe states' rights were merely an excuse for slavery to exist or did the South have a legitimate reason to be upset with the North? (4-5 sentence minimum).
